About Us
As Malleswaram evolved over the years, rapid urbanisation began to reshape not only its physical landscape but also the close-knit community that had long defined the neighbourhood. Recognising the need to rebuild these connections, Malleswaram Social was founded in 2016 as an informal residents' collective dedicated to bringing people together. What began as a simple effort to foster conversations and strengthen neighbourhood ties gradually grew into a community-driven initiative, creating opportunities for residents to connect while also engaging with issues that shape everyday life in Malleswaram.
Community Building
Community has always been at the heart of Malleswaram Social. Through initiatives such as Night Walks, Community Meetups, and other informal gatherings, the group has created spaces for neighbours to meet, share experiences, and discover common interests. From heritage walks and creative workshops to potlucks, games, and conversations over tea, these initiatives have encouraged meaningful connections while helping residents engage more deeply with the neighbourhood and with one another.
Civic Initiatives
Malleswaram Social believes that better neighbourhoods are built through active citizen participation. Over the years, the group has led and supported a wide range of civic initiatives—from improving walkability and public spaces to waste management, education, and environmental campaigns—working collaboratively with residents, institutions, and civic authorities to create a more liveable Malleswaram.
Collaborations
Malleswaram Social has collaborated with organisations across Bengaluru on initiatives including Walkable Malleswaram with Sensing Local Foundation to improve walkability, Meet to Sleep with Blank Noise to reclaim public spaces for women, Pedal Power with Sampige Foundation to promote cycling, city-wide advocacy campaigns with Citizens for Bengaluru (CfB), Roti Express during the COVID-19 pandemic, and the Zero Waste Collective Malleswaram for decentralised waste management.
Talks and Presentations
Malleswaram Social organises talks and presentations that bring residents together to learn about local issues and initiatives. Sessions have covered topics such as street vending and inclusive public spaces with Citizens for Sustainability (CiFoS), solid waste management with Sensing Local, and citizen participation through RTI workshops with VFC India and RTI Revolution. These conversations aim to encourage awareness and inspire community-led action.
