Sri Vidya Mandir Education Society was established on January 18, 1970 at 6th Main in Malleswaram, with three students, two teachers, and Smt. N. Leelavathi as Headmistress. By 1971, the school had expanded to 88 students across LKG to Class II. In 1973, Nursery classes operated in an undivided hall while Primary classes were conducted in thatched-roof rooms with cow dung and mud floors. The school received official recognition from the Department of Education, Government of Karnataka, in 1973 and in 1976, the school relocated to temporary asbestos-roofed sheds behind Malleswaram Post Office, opposite Sri Venugopalaswamy Temple.

The first batch of Class VII students appeared for public examinations in 1977, achieving distinctions across the board. Responding to public demand, the High School section commenced in 1981. The inaugural SSLC batch in March 1984 recorded a hundred percent pass rate! Naturally the school became well-known, and to accommodate increasing enrollment, the school operated in shifts. Despite lacking a dedicated playground (students used the Chamundi Scout Ground) the institution prioritized sports, with students representing Karnataka at national competitions.

In 1989, the school acquired property on 11th Cross, 6th Main Road, where Nursery and Lower Primary sections were relocated. Pre-KG classes began in 1990. During 1992-93, temporary structures and the Post Office building on 11th Cross, West Park Road, were demolished for new construction. Higher Primary and High School classes temporarily shifted to Sri Tripurasundari Kalyana Mantapa. The new building was inaugurated in 1994, and classes returned to the premises. A multi-storey building replaced the old structure at 11th Cross, 6th Main, housing Nursery and Lower Primary sections from 1999. In 2010, the school acquired a third property on 15th Cross, 6th Main, where the Higher Primary section relocated in May 2012.

It has been a long and glorious journey for this institution. The school Society now operates from Pre-KG to Pre-University College across three multi-storey buildings in Malleswaram, with 2,186 school students and 1,642 PU College students. The institution emphasizes value-based education, computer literacy, yoga, Veda chanting, and experimental learning to foster scientific thinking and the alumni have distinguished themselves globally.
