In conversation with Kiran

I Have to Earn and Make a Living

My name is Kiran, and I have been working at Maruti Medicals for ten years. I didn't have a job before this. I came here because I had to earn and make a living. Whether I like it or not doesn't matter—I have to do the work. I need to support my family. I have two daughters, and they are studying in the 3rd and 8th grades at a school in Malleswaram itself, around 6 kilometers from here.

Major Improvement Since I Came

I have seen many changes in Malleswaram since I came here. Before, there weren't as many shops, and people weren't as out and about as they are today, and the roads weren't as good as they are now. There has been major improvement since I came to Malleswaram. These changes are good. Covid has helped people become more aware, especially about money and health.

Customers Who Know Me By Name

We get regular customers, but there are many new ones too. The road here has been dug up for a while, so customers have been less for some time, but the relationship between customers and the owner is good. Everybody is cooperative. The people are very respectful, a lot of the customers know me by name, and I recognise them as they have been coming for many years.

The Owner Looks After Me

The owner has given me a car, so I use that for my travels. I wouldn't say there's a personal connection with the owner—I'm a working staff member here at the end of the day—but he looks after me.

A Quiet Area, Everything Here

I like Malleswaram overall. The temples are nice, so are the parks and eateries. There is everything here. It's a quiet area—there's no disturbance. It's peaceful. Everybody minds their own business. The only disturbance may be caused by people coming into the area from outside. Those who live here don't bother anyone, they stay in their homes, doing their own thing. The community is very nice—there are no problems. I don't have many memories as such because my life began here. I'm able to earn to support my family and run my life easily, and that is how I see Malleswaram.
