Connected through family to Malleswaram

Early Memories of Treatment

My name is Selvan. I am 68 years old.

My connection with Malleswaram began in childhood. My mother used to bring me to Dr. Parthasarathy's clinic for my tonsillitis, where they would perform throat treatments. That's one of my earliest memories of the area.

Connected Through Marriage

Later, I became deeply connected to Malleswaram through my wife, who is from this neighborhood. Since both of us were working, I used to drop my children off at my mother-in-law's house, where she would take care of them. Through these visits, my children too became familiar with Malleswaram—the jhatka gadi and all the local sights.

A Wallet on the Road

There's one more incident I'd like to share that really captures the essence of old Malleswaram. I used to travel by motorbike with my wallet in my back pocket. One day, due to the bumps and jolts on the ride, my wallet fell out onto the road. I only realized it was missing when I reached for it near what is now Mantri Mall—back then, it was called Central Theatre. I immediately turned around and retraced my route, and incredibly, I found my wallet lying exactly where it had fallen.

This happened just 5 or 10 years ago, but it's something you probably couldn't experience in today's Malleswaram. It speaks to the kind of place it used to be—safe, trusting, and where people looked out for each other.
